THE OUTHOUSE CAFE

Awarded the Gold Award for Interior Design – Restaurant Lounge & Bar by FOAID, India (2021), this project reimagines a once-forgotten café along the tranquil backwaters of Kottayam. Nestled within the premises of the Aida Hotel, along the tranquil backwaters of Kottayam, a once-forgotten café finds new life as a refined gastropub. Stripping away layers of time, the plastered façades were meticulously peeled back to reveal the raw narrative of exposed brick. The hexagonal terracotta tile flooring, worn yet rich with history, was inlaid with a cementitious micro-topping, tracing a path through the interiors. Fixed French windows, framed with operable doors, extend towards the courtyard, forging a dialogue between enclosure and openness—where the past lingers, and the present unfolds.
